Watering
Are you curious how much to water your lawn? Olathe, Overland Park, Leawood, well, all of Kansas City come to think of it, has had a lot of rain lately so there’s probably no need to water right now. As summer starts to set in make sure you’re getting 1-1.5 inches of water per week. It’s helpful to have a rain gauge (guage? can never seem to spell that right), that way you can keep track of how much rain we’ve had and only water as needed.
Watering Costs
Did you know that most cities have higher water costs in the summer to account for lawn watering (aka lawn irrigation)? They’ll usually baseline your water usage during the winter when you’re typically using the least amount. Then anything you use in the summer on a monthly basis over that amount is charged at a higher rate. Check your water bill for anything relating to Tier 1 or 2 (I think that’s what Olathe calls it), or anything like that and you’ll see what we mean. So not only is it important to water intelligently for the environment, but it can save you real money.
